“The endowment is a lasting legacy by members or friends of the church to continue their giving after they’re gone for the ministry of the church. What I appreciate most about the foundation is the return on investment and knowing full well that (the endowment) is in good hands.”
- David Cruikshank, finance chairperson, Trinity United Methodist Church, Bradenton
Planned gifts, such as bequests, life income arrangements and gifts of real property or other appreciated assets, can grow into substantial endowment funds that nourish and sustain local church ministries well into the future.
Churches can establish endowment programs to fund specific ministries, such as missions, scholarships, youth programs, and maintenance and improvement projects. Endowments may also provide general, undesignated funds for emerging needs.
