The Florida United Methodist Foundation is pleased to announce the promotion of Tamika Smith to Controller. She will transition to the role in July.
Since joining the Foundation as the Assistant Treasurer in 2023, Smith has played a critical role in financial accounting operations in support of the ministries of the Foundation. As Controller, she will oversee financial staff and essential processes related to accounting, compliance, annual budgeting, and financial reporting.
Smith has 25 years of accounting experience and has served as Director of Finance for multiple organizations. She has supported a myriad of accounting functions such as payroll, accounts payable, and retirement services, through which she developed her ability to analyze information, identify key indicators for change, and make critical financial decisions that ensure financial stability and wellness. Key among Smith’s skills is her ability to develop signature processes for efficiency and impact, which reflects her passion for continuous improvement.
“Tamika’s corporate and not-for-profit experience and fresh perspective have already contributed significantly to the Foundation’s ministry. This new role as Controller will allow her to contribute even more and grow professionally as part of our ministry team,” said Foundation President and CEO, Rev. Ed New.
Smith looks forward to building upon the Foundation’s legacy of community support. She values the direct impact the Foundation has on local communities as well as the support for professional growth she has experienced while serving its mission. “At the Foundation people care about how you are doing, your growth, and being good shepherd over the churches and each individual’s resources that they entrust us with,” Smith said. “It’s an important responsibility that fosters giving, education on retirement, investments, and money management down to the church/community level. That in itself makes working for this organization rewarding.”
